eBay big spenders

I bought an exotic valve amplifier for £471.89 four years ago. It was a two week auction and there was only one bid on day one, and then nothing. Ten different hidden snipers appeared in the last ten seconds, and I got lucky. Speaking clock on the phone in my ear and a trembling finger on the "Submit" key. Stupid stuff but a way of getting a gambling hit without losing your trousers

Most I spent was about 700 on a bike..campag record through out that years groupset. I sold the saddle for 75. Straight away as I knew I didn't like them.
Most I bid was about 5k on a diesel money estate when I was in the market for a new car...in the early days one could get good bargains on eBay..these days seems harder..especially if there's people watching and using software to snick items. I've seen many lose the run of themselves and pay more on eBay than on somewhere like amazon.

I was chasing a rare copy of a horror movie "Halloween 6 - The Producers Cut" - so rare in fact that it was never officially realised. I paid around £55 for a DVD copy. Blood good film though so worth it.

Not a big spend (relatively) - probably the most was £350 or so - we had some degree of concern buying art deco lights from France/Germany. Most sellers (a few years ago) only took bankers drafts/transfers rather than CC or paypal, then you'd have to hope a decent sized lump of heavy or fragile glass (possibly with ironwork) would make it through the carrier/mail network ok. That said, everything's arrived fine and very well packed, and all the sellers we used had good feedback.
The amusing bit was seeing a post on the bentrideronline (recumbent bike) forum - some bloke reckoned that they were a bunch of scammers for using bank transfers (err...no, that's what they're used to doing...)

Bought - my new Mercedes for £475

My watch collection has been my biggest cumulative purchase and sale there though, I think I'm about even stevens!

No major expenditure on Ebay but I have a bought a lot on there over the years. The most expensive was probably a bonnet for an old Fordson tractor. Came to around £100 inclufing postage.

50p + 75p P&P on an ice-skating video for my old mum.... seemed a fair swap, at the time.

Tried to sell an A4/A3 photocopier, asking £400 for it but no takers. Ended up giving away to the local under 12s football team for sponsorship!

Spent £600 on a low mileage one elderly widow owner Fiat chunkychicken three years ago. It is still going strong.

Have bought and sold several various electric basses, and amps, there over the years, with the largest transaction, iirc, being a £750 sale.

I've rarely had a problem, and when I have it has been resolved amicably.

I've mostly bought D.I.Y. power tools from "e-bay" - all new or returns and all Bosch + 24v Batteries for Bosch powerdrills - never spent more than £100 on an individual item.

Also several bits and bobs for my old Civic Type R e.g. high performance Japanese oil - H.A.M.P. Oil filters and NGK Iridium plugs etc never spending more than £50 on an individual item.



I've bought several bits and bobs for my bikes - nothing too expensive though.

I think the most I've paid on "e-bay" was £450 last year for a spare set of alloys for my Audi - with the intention of fitting winter tyres to the other wheels.



I've never had any problems with anything I've bought from "ebay" but I always look into the sellers history thoroughly and always pay with PAYPAL!!!

bought a car for £999 a few years ago
bought another one last year for £750

both are still going strong.

bothg my good bikes cost more than the cars though.
i would never buy a bike on ebay (unless its that cheap specialized tarmac i am after)
