I sold a DVD last week. It was a Spanish film from a famous Spanish director, with its Spanishness explained in both the standard info eBay adds and a link to its IMDB page in the description.

The buyer left feedback yesterday saying they don't really like foreign films

done exactly that. he said in a previous message that he was going to pakistan today (cheeky bugger wanted next day delivery even though it wasn't specified) and either his english isn't first rate or he's just not very bright, so he's maybe misread the description (although he could have matched the items received to the ones in the picture).

not impressed that as a seller you can only offer 'positive' feedback, even if you then give them a slagging off (i haven't done that, yet), which rather makes a mockery of the feedback score; his is 5 100%, of which 3 are positive comments and two are less than complimentary.

I honestly wouldn't lose a wink of sleep over it - especialy now that you mention he's from Pakistan*. If USB cables are cheap on ebay, they'll cost next to nowt over there.

ebay is full of nutcases...

I had a bloke win a bass guitar and amp (so not small items) and I had stated that it was pickup only, he got in touch after paying me the fee for the guitar and said that he lives in France and would like it mailed over!!!

I "politely" explained that the auction was for a local pickup only...he started whining and said that if he paid extra could I deliver it to a friend of his that lived 60-odd miles away. I did in the end, it was a nice day out for me and the missus but I made sure he paid for the petrol costs!

I had one that did similar and wanted me to post to Equador.
After a lot of hassle I finally agreed to posting to a London address. Not surprisingly I was then told it didn't arrive. Post Office insurance had to pay out on 20kg of Land Rover axle parts.

He wrote he was going to Pakistan not he was from Pakistan, although I do not think Pakistan has a massive appeal to foreign tourists.

It does seem a bit odd in 2012, given we now have the universal charger someone complaining. Maybe they don't have one, but they won't have this 'problem' next time, something which will almost certainly happen in future as they are so common companies are cutting back on dishing out chargers.

well his surname was khan, so i'm guessing he is of pakistani extraction. his english was not great, nor was it any sort of street slang so, given that he had 89 at the end of his username, i'd guess he is a twenty-something recent immigrant. i may of course be completely wrong and he's just thick and british……

A standard has been agreed, Micro USB is the connection type. Obviously, a new standard doesn't retrofit to legacy hardware in your house.

Last year (depending on when one takes as final agreement or shipping - although it sort of pretty much happened unofficially some time before this). Sadly, it has taken considerably longer than I and others would like . But it is here. As mobiles are relatively short lived devices for many people it means many people will be going onto USB relatively quickly. It doesn't help retro devices or those mobile users who may keep the same phones for say 5 years and buy lower end ones (of which during the transition period many were not being fitted with micro USB).

I asked for frame size of an Ebay bike last week, after several messages to and fro, I sent a diagram. After this message I gave up, shame, was a nice bike.

I only measured to the bottom ring - should I have measured to above that? In that case it would be 23 inches from bottom of the thing that sticks out at the bottom the the bit where the ring that fits around the bottom of the bit bit that the seat sits on sits. I measured from the dead centre of the thing that sticks out.

USB pop-port? It's at least partially of some use charging it in other locations and the cable isn't large. That phone is a case in point though, for when it was launched it should really have been micro USB.

The asian community, in particular first generation Pakistanis can be somewhat prickly to deal with when it comes down to money as they are extremely frugal but it's mostly down to language and communication problems.

This does not however mean that they won't take advantage of this to a slight degree if they think there is chance of getting something for free by complaining or pleading ignorance of the terms of a deal, but this is not an exclusive trait of the pakistani community, well off Brits for instance, especially the recently wealthy can be a pain in the arse as well - you just have to be firm.

Goods as advertised and no means no.

Tell me about it - of all my export customers my agent in Pakistan is the most enthusiastic negotiator, especially because he is also my distributor and his only source of income is the resale of the products. I sell all over Africa but no African negotiates like him - consequently every year my boss bollocks me for the company's lowest average sales margin being in Pakistan. He will screw me to the floor then rip the guts out of me as well, shamelessly!

It's a bit like when you sell something at a car boot sale - most people are happy to pay 50p and totter off thinking they've got a bargain. Mrs Khan will offer you 30p then fish around in her bag and produce a 20p coin, muttering: "I've only got this" and when you agree in exasperation she takes the item and then asks if you've got a bag....
