Exactly the same here. Well, not that I have a wife:rolleyes:. To put it in perspective - there is no more room to fit a bookcase in in the cottage, so one of the spare rooms in the almost finished extension is my library . Happy days.
I also download free books from Amazon to read on my phone's Kindle app - can't pass up the opportunity of a free book.
I have (unusually) a huge pile (yippee) of books that I haven't read yet sitting on the shelf. When there are offers on, I have to buy buy buy. Coming up to that time of year where there is nothing better to do than sit in front of the fire with a book. :addict:

LOL! I have read almost every paper book at least once. I taught myself to speed read while at College, it saved taking too many notes and I could re-read all of the set text books the evening before an exam. While I rarely use the skill these days, it speeded up my already pretty rapid 'normal' reading speed. My wife detests my using Ceefax as I scroll through the pages way to fast for her to keep up, and she's a good reader, having earned her daily crust typing and the like for all her working life. I had a colleague bring me a confidential paper to read which was an A4 sheet completely asking me to read it. I read it, twice and gave her it back, her reaction was, 'You couldn't have! When I told her I'd actually read it twice she blatantly didn't believe me. But it was true. This has cost me a lot of money in reading material over the years!

Bursledon Briwckworks open day - 10 books for £1
Local Poke Office - 20p per book, 25p per hardback
Charity Shop in Lowford 50p per book
Summer Time at Hamble Lifeboat Station - £0.40-£1 per book

I it - 10,000 .mobi books from a friend via an ex amazon person.
I couldn't be without my Kindle as I'm an avid reader and I take it all over with me.

Just bought Mrs T a nook e-reader and used a free trial converter to slap some books on it for her.

Does Ceefax still exist?

I had the same experience with someone once. I read a Ceefax page, then read it again, then waited, then eventually went on to the next page, and so on. Eventually, the person reading the pages with me got really irate and accused me of deliberately scrolling the pages too fast for her to read ...

She didn't believe that I had actually read the pages, so I recited one of them almost word for word to prove that I had!

I buy a few books for my Kindle via Amazon, but mostly on compilation discs from ebay.

Sometimes the formatting is a bit wayward, but not so much that it prevents me from reading the book.

I am up to 131 books read on my Kindle.

How do I go about buying e-books as presents for Kindle users?

I'm presuming we need to know something of their details; but getting that detail might spoil the surprise.

Free kindle books
Enjoy!

I've also got a fair few others, as in they won't all fit on the Kindle (keyboard) memory at the same time.

What's the Nook like? I've just bought a Kobo for "the house" and my wife and both kids (teenagers) are queueing up to read books I've loaded on to it. I'm considering another eReader and have looked at the Nook. One of the reviews I've seen suggests that the usual microUSB cable won't work and you have to use the unique Nook one. Is this correct and are there any other features I should be aware of (good or bad)?

Cheers

I've never read a book on an electronic device until recently; one of those very rare occasions where I found myself on a train with nowt' to read. Then, remembers I, looking at my new phone for the playbook function and lo and behold, there were three novels already uploaded! And thus began my electronic novel introduction. The novel?
