I've never read a book on an electronic device until recently; one of those very rare occasions where I found myself on a train with nowt' to read. Then, remembers I, looking at my new phone for the playbook function and lo and behold, there were three novels already uploaded! And thus began my electronic novel introduction. The novel?

Hi @Monsieur Remings, the nook uses a micro-usb as most devices use now instead on mini-usb.
Usability-wise, it's a doddle to use and as mrs T is a gadget freak, she hasn't complained so can't be too bad!

I got her the backlit version at £65 and it's not a kindle so the backlit screen is a little shadowy at the edges in comparison, however, overall, it's good VFM.

Kindle and fruit based product with kindle apps in the house here. Usual ace for books but do use a website for research books and it's ok PDF format but drops in to the kindle, the books are legit and free, just some adds in the preface you can scroll through. Link below. Not used since last term but got some good reads on pollution and environmental issues.

What's the Nook like? I've just bought a Kobo for "the house" and my wife and both kids (teenagers) are queueing up to read books I've loaded on to it. I'm considering another eReader and have looked at the Nook. One of the reviews I've seen suggests that the usual microUSB cable won't work and you have to use the unique Nook one. Is this correct and are there any other features I should be aware of (good or bad)?

Cheers
I got a Nook in May when there was a promotion and they were £29. I find it just as good as my old (now broken) Kindle and it uses the same electronic ink technology. The good thing is that it can read most ebook formats unlike the Kindle so even if the Nook is discontinued at some point (there was some talk about that) it will not be junk. The choice of books from Barnes and Noble is not as wide as the one from Amazon for Kindles but you can convert the format as I said before. Kindle chargers work with Nooks and Samsung chargers may work as well.

Aren't the eBay compilations *cough* illegal? Someone's just downloaded those gigabytes of ebooks from a torrent site, stuck 'em on a DVD and is flogging pirated copyrighted material.

I tend to get most of my eBooks cheaply from the numerous Amazon Kindle book sales, and from their daily deals. I also get a fair number of crime & thrillers through the Scottish ePublishers 'Blasted Heath', as they tend to sell them for a couple of quid. Occasionally I'll cough up for the more expensive eBooks when I feel the need to (eg David Millar's & Tyler Hamilton's autobiographies for my holiday reading)

For the rest of the time, I still overload my shelves with real books bought from Charity shops and jumble sales etc! And to think I bought my Kindle over 3 years ago precisely because I had so many books and no more bookshelf space to keep them on.....

It has been available for a few weeks now at the bargain price of £1.49 - here. Well worth a read, and if you buy through that link, Shaun will get a small commission for each purchase!

Enjoy!

I've also got a fair few others, as in they won't all fit on the Kindle (keyboard) memory at the same time.

Hmm thanks for that link......first page contained a book about young ladies on the beach. obviously my curiosity got the better of me so I had a look (I understand more pictorial and not much of a narrative by all accounts), obviously when I clicked through I didn't realise I was logged into Mrs D's Amazon account at the time.:cursing:
