Father time has caught up with this 300lb pensioner, and I'm ready to declare on 63 (imperial).

Not sure what my metric one is. I've done 96km (60 miles) or more on 93 occasions, but very few rides in the 50-60 mile range. (Whenever I've done 50 miles I've tried to plough on and turn it into a 100km ride). That probably leaves my metric Eddington somewhere in the low 80s.

ED: Come to think of it, I must have done 93x93km, so it is obviously 93 (metric)!

I reached E Metric 82 after yesterday’s ride.

There’s now a large gap with 11 more rides needed to get to E Metric 83. I hope to get there by September/October but much depends on how hot it gets here in July/August. E Metric 83 to E Metric 86 should then be done fairly quickly with only 3 or 4 rides needed between each step up.

E Imperial 55 should be reached before end of June (only 2 more rides needed) … and only 6 more rides needed to get to E Imperial 56 (perhaps September). There’s then a huge gap to E Imperial 57 … but hopefully I can get there by Q3 next year.

I started looking at E Metric 90 as a “lifetime goal” back in early 2024. It seemed almost impossibly distant back then. I needed 62 more rides to get there but I’ve now got that number down to 40. If I can do 15 more rides over 90km this year (and that’s a BIG “if”) then that would mean I could get to E Metric 90 by end of 2026 (instead of the original vague target of “sometime” in 2028).

Just have to keep cycling – and planning – and hoping …

No - it means that @ianrauk has done at least 119 rides over 119 miles. There are undoubtedly much longer rides in that total of 119 rides.

I'm sure there are, but needing 10 more over 120 miles to get it up to 120 means at least 9 of those 119+ rides must have been under 120. If all of the 119 rides that were 119 or more miles had been 120+, then he would only need 1 more.

I think you could make the same argument for any particular Eddington Number.

One possible explanation for '119' is that when @ianrauk was on, say, '115', he was making sure that he exceeded that number by a few miles each time.

Don't forget that Eddington Numbers are calculated on daily totals, not necessarily one ride - so aggregated totals (including commutes, for example) may have produced a few '119's.

If you haven't already done so, I suggest you do your own spreadsheet of your Eddington rides - that'll help you understand why there are apparent anomalies/oddities.

Yes, I understand all that. It just seemed slightly odd that nearly 10% of rides that were at least 119 miles were within a mile of it.

As you say, it could be something like commutes (that will certainly have affected mine around the 31 mile point), or just that he was targeting a particular distance with quite a few rides that met it not being much over.

I sort of get obsessing Alex321 finding 119 is a oddish number to have a drop off on, but then 119 is a farking big Eddington so Kudos to @ianrauk.

Mine has a big drop off at 50 because if I look like getting home close to 50 miles I often ride around the block to tick it over 50, just because..
So I have done 17 more rides of 50 miles than I have of 51.

My ticking up of my Eddington has now focussed to kms as 80 is quite achievable (but it drops away again by 82km)!!!

With the help of my ebike bought ~8 weeks ago, despite the 4+ weeks of respiratory infections including the ongoing one that might be starting to clear, I might actually end up with a 20+ Eddington for the fisrt time since summer '22.

From '17 to '22, I think it was 30-40 most years, from riding outdoors in good weather typically Apr-Nov. I'd normally do a ~60 miler most months at a steady effort, but more often than not I would do ~30 mile loops, with max bean efforts near 300W for climbs 270-650 feet of elevation (approx 5-21mins). These days I do well do do 300W for 2-3 minutes on a very good day.

That implies you have done at least 9 rides of 119.x miles. Seems a slightly odd distance to have done that many to within a mile of each other.
