No it's not. Scotch tastes and smells horrid. JD and Coke on the other hand can be enjoyable from time to time
Each to his own of course but I DISLIKE the peaty malts e.g. Laphroiag (spelling??)
My son and my S.I.L enjoy JD and coke but it does nothing for me.

The Camera Obscura at the top the the Royal Mile is an amazing place, with great views all around - providing the weather is clear.
Plenty of art galleries near too - 2 at the base of the Mound and the National Portrait Gallery on Queen Street has just completed a major overhaul - so I really should visit it myself ...

Angels with Bagpipes on the Royal Mile is a mighty fine eatery and great for a wee treat. It caters to the posh-food higher-end-of-the-market folks but not quite Michelin star and not up it's own poop hole.

If you are staying near St. Andrews square, visit the Dome on George street. The restaurant is quite pricey, but if you just have a drink you can enjoy the stunning architecture.

I ate at the scran and scallie a few weeks ago and was really unimpressed - very expensive for ok but not excellent food. I preferred the Honours just down from Hanover street where I had the best steak of my life (and the best ever cherry tomato on top of that steak) and an impromptu birthday cake when one of the staff overheard I was out for a quiet birthday dinner.. Lovely.

The Caley tasting rooms are very good as well but our of town a little bit.

As for places to go if you fancy an exhibition the national museum has a fantastic one about the Celts.. The national library also has a fairly gruesome one about Plagues in Scotland.
