Last time I was in Edinburgh I got pretty drunk in Pizza hut of all place, had a bin thrown at my head at some point during the night and ended up in A&E.

Certainly an interesting night out - have fun!

Bow Bar, Victoria St; Cafe Royal (just off the East end of princes st are 2 well known and highly recommended bars for their beer and original style.

Personally, I would avoid the Royal Mile - just too touristy. I quite like some of the more modern bars on George St. Tiger Lilly, Browns are a couple of them - there are lots including the sticky carpeted Witherspoons (ghastly). If you are on George St, it is worth popping into the Dome - very impressive architecture, but the prices will ensure that you only have a quick one.

As gavintc re George Street, the bar of the George Hotel (across the road from the Dome) is quite good for cocktails as is Harvey Nics just across the Square if that kind of thing appeals....

Cheers sound like a couple there we will certainly try. Its a stag do (well 11 Blokes and 1 Girl) any problems with large groups getting in the bars?

If it's a stag do then I recommend the Grassmarket, then over to Rose street - a pub every few steps!

You may end up wanting the Grassmarket which is where a lot of the stag parties go, The bars are inoffensive, crowded but good fun. The 3 sisters is in the same building as your hotel and is not bad, it has a fair student population. The one girl in your party will probably resist the classic drift up to the High Port (aka Pubic Triangle) for the strip bars. To be honest, they are dreadful, not worth the time or cost and I could not recommend them. All in all, there are a wide range of options in Edinburgh and you are unlikely to have a bad night out. Have a great time.

Guildford Bar just off princes street at the east end .Berts Bar in William Street at the west end both serve proper ales also Mathers at the corner of Queensferry Street is a good Bar with a decent selection of ales . The Malt Shovel in Cockburn street is good as well decent beer and a fair selection of malts ..If your feeling brave then CC Blooms at the Greenside is good for a laugh.

The Blue Blazer, half way between the Grassmarket and Lothian Road. They have lots of those ale-type things if you like them, but the lager is served in frosty steamin' cold glasses. Mmmm.
