Edinburgh to Munster (germany)

Hi All,
Route planned...slightly concerned of the safety issues in the A697 part of the journey..any tips. After that Amsterdam to arnehm and then on to munster..Again tips appreciated, solo journey. Thanks in advance

Hi Rosco.
I passed through Munster only last week, my blog shows the route I took. You can't go wrong really, sooo many cycle lanes in Holland, and Germany it's a doddle. Some of the lanes in Germany take you down concrete slab roads through fields, but I guess that was more-so after Munster.

500km by the time I get there..village just outside munster, need to pass through Rheine. Staying with friends when I get there. Stay safe and thanks for the replies

As others have said, you can't go wrong in the Netherlands. In Germany, if using open streetmaps, watch out for its sometimes comical view of what constitutes a road. Bikeroutetoaster.com is a good site for finding nice cycling routes.

sounds good i just got back from holland (not cycling ) theres loads of cyclists out there but just be different from the rest and where a helmet please i saw not one person out of about 500 cyclists wearing a helmet

All these people telling you about how wonderful cycling in Germany is when you asked about the A697!
I cycled a section from just south of Wooler to Coldstream on a Sunday a few weeks back - it was moderately busy, but fine - traffic seemed to come in batches with good gaps between. I did get a couple of impatient overtakes, but what do you expect? I did pull over to let one of those big vans that transport horses past and was glad that I had as it had a monster tail of cars behind it.

Hi Guys......thanks for the input...Fimm, I`ll bare that in mind down the A697..mind moderately at rest..Young ed...Helmet cost a fortune so theres no chance of me not wearing it....having said that I would wear one anyway....Trikeman..been on the website suggested and have decided to detour to Erkhuizen then across the 22km dyke...then on to Arnehm..Thanks again love the input

Hi....Job done 700 km in 3 nights 4 days...detour from Imjudien..to Enkhuizen...Apeldoorn....doetinchem...Bochult and then north to munster..great experience
