A bit late, but maybe good for future reference:

On my way back from work going down Creek road on friday at about 6.10pm, I was waiting at the lights just by Watergate street when some old dear looked at me as she was crossing - I was expecting her to say something about RLJs(I was stoppped btw) - instead she says that I should be careful as 'They're throwing eggs at bikers'....thank god for the heads up! I put a real spurt on and heard a load of whizzes and splats as about 3-4 eggs came flying past. About a dozen jeering adolescent yobs were responsible. As I thanked my lucky stars, I saw a girl cyclist stopped at the kerb a bit further on, so stopped and asked if she was OK....she'd obviously been hit by an egg and was upset. She just started crying when I asked if she was alright.
By now the cowardly thugs were chasing cyclists and throwing things at them(really nasty) and pelting nice sports cars.
I decided to call the police.
The whole thing was quite scary.
Of course before anyone arrived, they'd all dispersed, but apart from being very intimidating, I know just how dangerous a thrown egg can be.
At least the poor girl I spoke to felt like something had been done to address this horrible scenario.
Why do 'people' think that it's fun to effectively assault someone???
No cops ever turned up.....so I left after 10-15 minutes as I was getting pretty cold.
Do you think maybe they thought I was being a timewaster?

Anyway......look out in the evenings if you go that way home.
Ironically enough, they were in the street opposite the carwash........

When phoning the police you should have said you thought you saw what looked like a gun. They then would have then been there in less than 2 mins from your call.

Nope. Sad to say, I suspect they had higher priority issues to deal with.

Scary as it undoubtedly was for both you and the girl, I think it's just one of the pleasures of living in London. Again, sad to say.

Probably...I once got punched for no reason and some people phoned the police. The Police turned up about 5 hours later to take the statement and go from there, where as they could of just come straight away and got the guy.

hmm.

This is not the 1st time.

Last spring it was water filled ballons from almost the same place.
4 x 12 year olds I would guess all male/white

I turned round and went straight for them at which point the ran across the main road causing two cars to do emergency stops.
I caught one by by his waist belt which then promptly came down, I then let him go (I was on the bike to could not hang onto a 12 year old and steer), so he then scarpered across the road with his pants and shorts around his knees

A coupls of months ago I saw the same group hanging around on the corner no doubt upto more michief and heard the comment from one to the other that I was the guy that pulled the trousers down of one of their mates, so they have a long memory.

Therfore I can only suggest that next time this lost do something, you turn around and go for them, a good thrashing with a D lock may disuade them from doing this too often

Too true - during the 5 or so minutes of having the give details of my phone number, name, reiterate my phone number, what service I required(again x 3) etc etc, I did mention that if the police came there and then, they'd catch them red handed.
i just somehow had the feeling that I was some crank getting his knickers ina twist over some japesters having some fun with some cyclist, ha-ha-ha....
In fact over in the other thread about getting drink cans/bottles getting lobbed out of cars it demonstrates that people really think that its a bit of a harmless giggle and have no real idea of the consequences.

Same old story of getting them on a bike and see it from t'other side of the fence.

I got cut up once (in car) on my road by some kids in what turned out to a stolen car, I followed them and they stopped due to a dead end, legged it, one couldn't get out as he tried to open the door my car was in the way, by the time he realised his mates were out and it was just me and him, he legged it and I got his collar but his coat came off, I legged it after him and the daft twat ran into the path off a car, over the bonnet, got up and limped off !

I then got arrested as the daft old biddy at the end of the road identified me as the driver of the stolen despite my car being there and me being 10 years older !

So be careful when retaliating, it may backfire, any eggs come my way I will probably have to maim one of the group whilst the rest kick me to death.

Gosh, I usually cycle past there around that time, but was a bit late finishing work on Friday so would have just missed the little scroats. I'll certainly be keeping an eye out as I approach that area in future.

Hi,

I've been a watcher here for some years, but this made me want to share a similar experience I've had.

I was "egged" about 3 years ago on the Liverpool Loop cycle path (about 200m from my house).

The egg was thrown from a bridge & hit me on the helmet. I crashed & was a bit dazed.

I ran up to the "youths" & started to shout a few choice words, but as there were about 20 of them, I thought better of it.

As I was leaving one made an excellent shot with a 2nd egg & got me in the small of the back.

After making a hasty exit, I called the local police station & reported an assaualt. I then went back to the bridge & asked around the local houses. One of the guys gave me the name of the kid who threw the egg & I went to the police station & gave a statement about him.

They took it seriously & went to his house. Apparently, they were threatening to arrest him. Of course he started crying & apologied etc. I was asked if I wanted to press charges, but after a bit of chatting to the officer, we decided that he was probably too scared to do anything again, so I didn't.

The best thing to do is just appear at the local police station & don't leave until they've taken a statement. At least that way, they have to note what's going on & take it seriously.

I was on a bus about 5 years back and eggs started to get thrown at the side of the bus. Driver stopped, everyone looked to the right and we saw the dumb shoots were lobbing them from their own front garden.:laugh:

Driver got on the radio and put a call in with the house number and the fact there were three of them. It was a very hot day so I hope the little runts had to clean it off after.

Haha...ages ago on the school coach I think some kids threw eggs or stones or something at the coach. The driver just got off and started swearing and threatening them. Was funny . Don't think anything happened but made the journey home a bit more eventful
