Hi,
My name is Ian and I have recently bought a Carlton from a lad at work, and I'm thinking of restoring it.
I will post pictures as soon I sus it out but it is a box of bits, the frame number is G9667 has anyone got an idea of age as all I have found is that 'G' is 1959, but it also could be 1971/72 when they changed the format of frame numbers.
I would be very greatful for any information before I through a load of cash at it! or not. ;)

Hi Ernie,
I paid £15 for the bike as he was taking it to the skip after 26yrs in a shed, the frame and forks weigh 2.8kg would I be correct in thinking this was a 531 db frame!!! I have just had a price for restoration of the frame and forks from Argos paints of £450 OMG lol,
I have just found Bob Jackson in Leeds on the net so I will be ringing him in the morning.
The bike also has: Weinmann brakes & brake levers, Mallard hubs and the frame has been brush painted orange ;( but the mentioned items have already polished up as new ;)

That is OMG !!! and I would think it may well be a 531 db frame (good solid frame imo) are you not able to do some of the work i.e. sanding down the frame yourself to help save a few quid ?

The fame needs a small hole on one of the tubes to the rear wheel brazing up as the previous owner tried to weld up a small dent and failed, so it has a 3mm hole that needs repairing and a new cable tunnel on top of the crank, but it has also has chrome plated lugs on the headstock that is starting to flake.

I'm abit tasty with a spanner and building things as it is what I do for a living but shoot with paint.
