I was just coming along to post that story.

If it is true, I'm appalled. I don't really know what else to say.

Sterling work by the Met there, get a six foot copper to take the place of the five foot two driver.

I hope they lock the guy up as he has now committed double man slaughter.

This quote from the readers comments caught my eye, and does seem to make some sense to me.

" this is why when cycling in London I don't feel compelled to follow all the traffic rules and regulations. It has been made clear time and time again that the rules and regulations of the road are heavily slanted to motor vehicles. Even the simple fact that there are so many traffic lights, street furniture and other restrictions is a direct result of motorised traffic.

Why should cyclists have the responsibility to observe these when they are not part of the problem for which the rules are presented as the solution, nor do they appear to receive the protection and rights which are the flip side of responsibility."

Though I still observe the rules I agree 100% with that argument.

I've known about this for some time and have been keeping silent because, if the driver goes to court, the defence could claim that he will not get a fair trial because of the publicity.
As it's gone public I've just done a little research and a reliable source alleges that the police leaked the story; which troubles me.

The circumstances regarding Eilidh's death are known and I consider it a disgrace that the driver was not prosecuted for something more severe. The police who investigated should be ashamed.
Having said that; we do not know the circumstances regarding the death of Nora Gutmann and due process should allow that the investigation and any subsequent prosecution should not be coloured by the previous offense.

Really? The cops may have scuppered the case?

Why would the cops leak this to the press? I don't know (I'm part of a circle of campaigners who've been silent about it, did it leak to Private Eye & then they asked the Met?).
Another issue: there are plenty of examples where police investigations into the deaths of cyclists have been unsatisfactory, but in the case of Eilidh's death there seems to have been another distraction in the mind of the investigating officer:
