long story short. father 86 living alone in London .
Me 150 miles away.
last week he had his car stolen from the super market and 2x days later he had his house burgled while he was in the garden.

I'm driving up tonight to stay for a few days and need to sort out some simple cheap automatic security for him.

What can you recommend for security.?
I will be screwing all GF windows shut and fitting Chub 5 lever locks to doors but what else could I do.

I'm thinking CCTV, panic alarms , auto dialling alarms ? what?

Hi

See http://www.crimereduction.homeoffice.gov.uk/cpghs.htm for good advice

speak to the local crime prevention officer aswell.

Make sure you don't compromise any emergency routes etc by screwing windows shut though.

Think about a security chain aswell as the locks.

If you use a security company, make sure they are reputable, the crime prevention officer should be able to help on this one also.

Hope this helps

Contact Social Services as well - there may be grants and help, as well as lists of reputable companies.

You may also be entitled to attendance allowance to help allay the costs of care.

Contact Victim Support

VS take an active interest in supporting vulnerable victims like your dad - I used to be volunteer supporter for the Merton VS group

So sorry to hear this.I hope he has not been targeted. My late mother was taken in by some Gypos over cutting down some trees in the garden.
But she had sense to call us both.
They never came back.
