I've had a philips wet 'n' dry shaver for about 6 years now, and was going to throw it away because it's very good at plucking out whiskers but no so good at cutting them.
So I thought I'd try sharpening it before buying a new one. I took the blades out, gave them (and the inside of the head) and good scrub with warm soapy water. Then I held the blades down on some 400 grit wet 'n' dry, on a flat surface, in a circular motion I ground it for about 20 seconds. Dried it all off, applied some 3-in-1 oil and reassembled.
It sounds better than it did when new, seems to spin a lot quicker. It seems to shave a bit better now but I haven't tried it on a good 1 day stubble yet. I'm sat here waiting for my beard to grow so I can try it properly.
Worth trying next time you're thinking of chucking one away (or buying replacement heads)
