Not bought owt like this on ebay ...put an offer in on it (£200) below its starting price on auction of £260 and there were no bidders so he got in touch with me so waiting for another ebay text today to go forward on it. ...It's 7 speed and was bought to take pictures at his daughters wedding!!...it's a voyage of discovery ...says he can bring it round in his van to my house so that saves some legwork on pickup from Pudsey to mine in north Leeds....i have used the Royal Mail version of this for a few weeks on the job and liked 'em .will keep you informed how it pans out

Beware of the little red widget thing on the click box for gear change,it's very fragile, if it breaks your in a big spot of bovver, used to service these at the Royal Mail, the little red widget thing connects the click box to the gear cable and really was a fit a new one every time you had the rear wheel out, the Torpedo 3 SPD was just about ok, but the P5 , was let down by the gubbins.
Luck!

yup red tab on clickbox missing a bit of molding and skewer bent so no go on gears booooo £17 for one on ebay

Thanks for posting, I was under the impression that P5 click box spares were rarer than 'unobtainium' , had a look and that link led to the 3 - SPD clickerty thing, which ironically I need to recommision my dual drive recumbent trike.
I'll chase it up.

I also note it is lacking a small threaded area in the middle of the push rod which mine has do you happen to know is this vital to the working ?

Not sure what you mean , but on the 3 spd it is, actually it isn't threaded but contiguously grooved, a spring steel catch then grips the indicator rod to adjust.
On the P5 gear from memory you had a small threaded section to screw it in. Then a sort of metal sleeve which the rod sat in, the little plastic widget then clicked in and fitted over a flared end, which the click box fitted over,
It's years since I last saw one, but don't recall any threaded section the on the P5 rod, I can't help you any further with that, all I know it was a right pain to adjust and work reliably,
The post office changed over to the 3 SPD soon after.
If you can post a pic of what you have, maybe that will help.

I have just restored a MailStar with the Sram P5 IGH. The inner rod you refer too does have a small threading but it is not vital. It just slides into place inside the tube and the red tab holds them all in place. I replaced the shifter, cable and click box all for about 20€ from Bike-Discount.de. You mentioned upstream about a coaster brake but I think you have the drum brake there. The IGH is the Sram P5 Cargo version so slightly different than the standard P5.

I found some useful resources online and ended up stripping and rebuilding the IGH which is pretty straightforward.

Front brake cables and outers are available from the Pashley ebay outlet store for £5.

SJS also sell some spare parts for them.
