The words "end of an era"are often used but in this context it really is as stated.
Bodens cycles in Blackpool will close its doors in September this year. The couple are retiring. It was his father's shop before him and have served Blackpool well.
I got my first real bike from them in the early 70's it was a refurbished carleton racer with a miller dynamo. The bike looked brand new.
I have always used them for tyres tubes and general cycling parts. That's 40 years plus at my reckoning.Never failed me and very pleasant to deal with.Advice was freely given.Prices were good.
The shop will be sold and the athmosphere will be lost.It was never glitzy just practical and welcoming.John was a proper bike mechanic.Nothing beat him.
I wish John and his wife a long and happy retirement

It is always sad when a long established specialist shop like a bike or hobby shop closes, particularly when you have been a customer for so long. I remember having to fight back a tear when I went back to London in 2003 and saw that EG Bates in Plaistow had closed, also due to retirement. I had been a customer there since the mid sixties and Alan Bates, the owner was one of the most helpful guys I met.

Is Bodens going to carry on as a cycle shop, or have we lost another one?
