Jeeze....why don't they just give them little trailers!

It's not health and safety, it's because of the volume of parcels. Agreed, cargo bikes and or trailers might make sense at least some of the time, but the bikes they had weren't up to the job any more.

You'd think it would still be cheaper for them to replace the current bike stock with something else - cheaper than vans and fuel anyway!

The problem is they'd need the vans regardless- the largest parcels we handle would be simply too large and/or too heavy to carry on a bike, apart from the security implications. Better for fuel costs overall to make full use of the vans by taking out the smaller stuff for deliveries as well, I should imagine. Not a perfect solution, I agree, but then I don't know what would be.

Fewer packets for the regular posties on bikes then? By limiting the size and weight of what they carry, their ''walks'' could even be lengthened.
Overall volumes are falling- and more of what we are handling is parcels. And I don't think the delivery side want longer walks......

I've noticed that. They certainly seem to be under time pressure, as they're always impatient and seem to be speeding most of the time.
I heard they used to give amphetamines to air force crews to keep them alert during long missions. I had no idea they were doing the same for posties.. Why is my mail always bloody late then?
