I did my first 60 miler when still overweight unfit 51 yrs old and on a cheap secondhand hybrid.with almost no training.

Drink and eat plenty and stop for a breather as often as you like.If your bike was still comfortable after 27 miles you will be ok.

Make every ride count by increasing the intensity. Develop your Lactate Threshold by riding @ 85-95% of your MHR for 20 minutes then after at least 5 minutes rest then repeat. Make sure you warm up for 15 minutes first then start off at the lower end of the zone 85% MHR.

Theory is that you will ride at a lower intensity for longer if you develop your LT.

If you decide to do this then do it no more than twice a week.
