That's a matter of a pinny on. (I may have used that excruciating pun before but hey....)

Meanwhile, Cook has spoken about resigning as captain and suggested Root as taking over. While losing must hurt him, I thought his ability to face up to the problem was done with grace.

He's a decent bloke, Cook. But I don't see the point in changing captains just because we lost a series in a country where almost every visiting team loses. With the exception of an absence of world class spinners, England are a fine side. Shouldn't burden the best batsmen (Root) with the captaincy when you've got a very experienced and able captain in Cook still there and still able to command a place in the team

In that respect, the captaincy is a bit like a hot potato. Perhaps it's weighing down on Cook's batting so wants to pass it on to Root to see whether Cook can recover his batting form and see whether Root can grow into the role without damaging his batting.

Is Mike Brearley still alive?

A bit of both - Gavaskar - Tendulkar - Dravid - Kohli - to name but a few - add in that they can pick spin bowlers from a huge pool so that the ones they have are the creme la creme - Ashwin is world number 1 - Jadeja is second best spinner - and pitches that suit them - England got a bit lucky in that 2012 the Indian spinners were out of sorts - I seem to remember the Indians also messed up on pitches - plus Cook and Trott were on fire (not sure if that is not an oxymoron) and England had two very good spinners in Swann and Panesar

It's rare for England to have one decent spinner, let alone two, so that 2012 side was a real outlier.
