Remember, 'a months salary....' was coined by De beers who are diamond miners.
Even the idea that an diamond ring is a compulsory part of getting engaged was promulgated by de Beers.

This is a ring she's expected to wear every day for the rest of her life. Unless your taste in jewellery is unrivalled and she doesn't have a strong preference, you should pick it together.

Someone is thinking about getting engaged, presumably to someone very special. Out come the CC misogynists, suggesting he murder her, and fat-shaming a woman they have never met. I hope the OP can see past that sh1t.

I'm surprised wedding and engagement rings are still worn in this day and age. They are a throwback to the times when a wife was the husband's property. Were I female I certainly would not wear either.

:bravo:Congratulations!

I went to a jewellers in Cheltenham with my Best Man-to be. We chose an antique ring. I think it cost about £150, maybe less, but that was 28 years ago. It really is worth looking at old rings. Some of them are absolutely lovely.

I asked Mr Marmion to marry me after returning home from the pub on 2 March 1996. Although it may have been the early hours of 3 March by the time I asked. We bought the ring together on 3 March.

I was always led to believe that traditionally a man spent approx 1 months wages on an engagement ring.

Spend what you 'both' feel happy with.

A very famous (in the NW at least) jewellers Prestons of Bolton, where I bought her indoors ring from has recently gone into liquidation .... sign 'O' the times.
