start stop cycle on vehicles used over short distances may create issues with emissions as they never get to the point where they work properly over the average journey for many drivers. Obviously this will be an even bigger problem in the winter.

It's actually the point of stop start, they only start to work when the car is at the correct temperature and by stopping they use less emissions than a car idling.

I can understand people being unsure of new technology, I was selling cars when 4 speed cars were replaced by 5 speed and so many people doubted it was required, now we have 6 speed!
