Oh no, that can't be right....according to some forumites it's just my imagination that 'fans' regularly hurl abuse at one another (let alone dream up lyrics about horrible disasters to chant at one another)

Minority my bottom.

It is a minority, and a tiny one at that, your bottom doesn't come in to it. I don't think it's your imagination though, it does happen so that gives the anti-football brigade all the ammunition they seek by tarring everyone with the same brush. That's a human trait all too sadly seen in football supporters, strangely enough, who seek out the tiny minority of opposition fans singing or doing something offensive because that then gives them the 'right' to unleash their offensive songs and doings in return. Funny old world, innit?

On a serious note racism is obviously bad but sadly still somewhat ingrained within the sport especially in certain parts of Europe. This is hardly a surprise.

So this 'minority'.....how is it their shouts / songs of abuse can clearly be heard over the real supporters chanting?

When the first person dreamt up the Munich song or the Hilsborough song, started sining it, and teaching others the words, why didn't the majority nip it in the bud?

Because they didn't want to.

They want to sing this sh**e at one another every week, then drop behind the 'real' fans mask when it suits.

As PaulB stated; it's a funny old world innit? - yes, a different world that is well overdue being put out to pasture.

No, I stated it's a funny old world because, ironically, you are doing exactly what you are condemning. Like the fans who condemn ALL opposition fans because they have a tiny minority (and believe me, having a 46-year-long match-going pedigree, I have seen it wax and wane over that time and it IS a tiny minority), you are condemning ALL football, because you don't like it, by justifying your dislike of it because there is an element of foul-mouthed ruffians.

And this is most definitely not in any way singing 'shite at each other every week' as there is a completely different group of opposition fans every week, some of whom don't bother singing at all and the tiny minority who do sing shite are so insignificant, they are ignored.

Still doesn't answer my question why the majority don't stop the minority acting like the idiots we both agree that they are?
They do. Why do you think the scenes we saw in Serbia aren't repeated at Premiership grounds week after week? It's because the majority of fans won't tolerate it, and any members of the minority who do racially abuse players are usually pointed out to stewards/police or ... cough ... dealt with by other fans.

They do, by and large, but you have to understand the dynamics for this to happen. Bear in mind it's all seated and you'd need the perp(s) sat in near proximity to you in order to stop it. You can't wade in with fists, that's stupid so how do you propose stopping, what I'm pleased you accept, are a minority?

How I've seen it happen occurs amongst groups of lads who've all come down to an away on a coach (It's been almost totally eradicated at my home team's ground due to everyone having sat near to/next to the same people for years - decades in my case) and because boozing is not allowed on the coaches, the urchins are using Ching or speed as their 'pharma du jour'. This gets them rowdy and as they congregate together, they get some group bravado and the first daft comments sound. If these aren't challenged, they get bolder and the comments get louder. They soon become known as 'Commodores' as in 'once, twice, three times a season' and then, they don't come anymore. But they will be replaced by another group of jack-the-lads so we have to be on our toes. As one of the recognised 'senior figures', a witty put-down enough to take the wind out of their sails always does the trick but I have known it get out of hand. Older heads shout expletive-loaded advice as to what will occur with the long arm of the law if they persist and that will mean our allocation is reduced. We ensure they are aware we'll make it known who's responsible and that tends to work. Racism is just not on at all and I haven't heard one solitary racist comment for about a decade.

My last few games have been watching Preston North End behind one of the goals, now there are large numbers of empty seats,so people who misbehave stand out,now i am 62 and i found the language of one small group of PNE supporters disgusting to say the least,it spoiled the game for me.Nothing was done by the stewards, had the guys been on the high street shopping they would have been arrested.
Enough is enough they have lost me a fan.

Football is vile. The players are vile and far far from being role models. Im fed up of it taking up news air time when there are for more important things going on in the world. Id rather a son of mine be a drug dealer than take an interest in that s***e... Over paid prim donnas every single one.
Yeh, thank goodness we've got the fine, virtuous sport of cycling to look up to.
