We have expectations of the national team that are way above their level of ability, fueled by blind patriotism, arrogance and a false impression of how good English football is because of it's success in getting teams into the latter stages of the Champions League - conveniently forgetting that if it wasn't for foreign imports they would be lucky get past the group stages.
