Good luck Mark, I have cycled a lot of SEA, I would keep a eye open for Problems in Burma, Last time I cycled there 10 years ago now, I had no problems but parts are bandit country and controlled by the bandits (Karen tribe) I just gave then a small (20$) present, I had entered the country from Mae Sak on the Northern Thai border, but left the country 3 weeks later in the South at the 3 Pagodas Pass. when you get towards Malaysia I would recommend you travel down the East side, must nicer route, and more like the real Malaysia, if you do that route there are some nice islands which you can get out to for some R&R also lots of Home stays and cheap hotels, on the West side you will have to contend with busy roads and more expensive rip offs. Also on the East side you can take a ferry over to Singapore save having to join the queue at JB/woodlands
