Does anybody know if there's cycle parking at the ERI? If there is, is it in a good place so my bike won't be nicked or is it tucked away out of the road somewhere? I googled for info but didn't find anything.

Just heard a mate was knocked off his bike by a car. Visiting tomorrow.I'm away to my bed. Thanks to anyone who might know the answer. I'll check in the morning.

Found a PDF buried on nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk that says there is bicycle parking throughout the site so it sounds good.

The best place to park a bike is at the racks under the big Medical School roof. (You get there by wheeling your bike in the main entrance and going straight out left again - racks are just in front of you. There is an outside route but it's complicated). It's the only place where you get shelter. Otherwise, just choose any of the bike racks dotted around the building. There is nothing more secure than that and the cctv only ever looks at the car parks!

One good lock, one crappy cable lock. It'll have to do. I didn't buy a bike just to take the car in case the bike gets nicked I suppose.

Alf - thanks for the info. Are you talking about the round place just north of the wee roundabout shown in this link?

If you have a full sus MTB, it would be fairly safe, the kids in the Inch would want to be seen riding anything other than an MTB, the cr@pper the better...

Well, there was oodles of bike parking and the bit with the steps on the cycle path just before you get to the hospital is good fun.

And my bike was still there when I got out. Result!

Six weeks on crutches for my friend though. That's not so good.
