European car hire Spain / France

I am trying to combine a friends birthday trip in Spain with a bit of cycling in France and was wondering what it is like hiring a car in Spain, driving it into France and dropping it back in Spain at the end of the holiday. Do they charge any extra for insurance etc.

Check with the hire company.
Usually no problem but you need to make sure.

I once hired a car in advance for spain, but didn't read the terms and conditions properly, and they wouldn't let me have it when we got there because I only had a debit card, and not a *credit card* which you need for indemnity. I used the debit card to pay for in the first place as well

Same story with all the other ones at the airport... and we had to get the bus...(and I wasn't very popular)
