There was a time when cycling HAD to be a balls out, push as hard as possible fitness ride with the aim of continuously getting faster and fitter. I rode like that for years.

It doesnt have to be that way. One of my most pleasurable rides was just the other day. Pootled 20 miles at probably 13mph average...no effort whatsoever, no sweat, no sore legs...just a real nice pleasurable ride. Didnt even need to shower straight away. It was like i hadnt been on the bike at all.

Of course age is coming into play...but i would never ride like that even 2 years ago.

I don't think I've changed my mind about cycling matters,if that's the correct term but I've certainly be educated. One of my most stupid beliefs was that tire tread on road was important!

Most significant change being completely stopped aspiring to the racing style of cycling. Binned off the club run as I just find it stressful. Also within the space of a few years changed my mind that fixed is a good idea, and then changed it back again.

you can be forgiven for thinking that, 'cos they produce them with tread, but they only produce them with tread because people THINK it's important, wrongly however! so they're manufacturing it like that purely to ssatisfy people's WRONG beliefs - crazy in't it!

I have an early nineties rigid mountain bike I use as a beater other two bikes are both road bikes. Never thought i would buy another MTB but after doing the Marin trail last month on a hired bike and going to do another hire trip at Llandegla this weekend I am finding the urge to buy an up to date MTB very tempting.
