OTOH, several times in electrical shops while looking at things, the salesperson has said "I've got one of these at home, it's really good." Yes, of course you have.

LOL yes the £100 HDMI cable.

Or as happened to us once while looking at fridge freezers in an electrical 'shed', two different salespeople (one talking to Mrs B in one part of the shop, another talking to me further along the rows of fridges) both telling us they had the different models we were looking at at home.

Why do potential customers in Halfords think that they can carry out a full suitability test by picking a bike up then nodding sagely at their bewildered spouse ?

Don't forget the old "Squeeze the brake levers" trick - tells you everything you need to know about a bike that does.

I did it today as a guy was being told that you cahnged grips, on a flat bar, by cutting off the old ones. My kids 'eat' grips so I proffered to remove them intact if I could keep them:biggrin:

Done it a couple of times in the LBS - more supporting the staff than against what they were saying. I've tried to steer many people away from BSO's before they go in the shop, but mostly they don't listen.

I've sorted quite a few people out. I've got a rather well equiped workshop directly opposite a branch of Evans. I've had people on the road in two minutes that were looking at several days and many pounds.

I've bought so many Exposure lights in my LBS that the manager hunts me down if I'm in there and anyone asks about getting a new light. I enthuse that much about them that any doubts about the difference between a £50 and a £150 lights are soon dispelled.

I should be on commission.

I don't join in giving opinions in bike shops just because there seems to be so much diversity of opinion. I also know that people are unlikely to listen, it's taken me several years to convince a friend that their pride and joy MTB is sadly probably not that suited to their needs, what chance do I have with a total stranger?

As for evans, only been in two in newish massive retail parks that I don't particularly desire to go back to. Seemed a bit poorly stocked for such a flagship chain bicycle shop.

Thats my experience as well. As the most enthusiastic cyclist at work, people always come to me for repairs, advice etc etc.
They'll always accept the repairs, but never the advice.
A £100 bike's a bargain innit ;) Thats all they see, however much you try to tell them.
