Absolutely no help to you but I decided from the outset.....pay someone to do it. While they are doing what would take me many hours.....I could be out earning more money than she cost me. Always worked for me.
BTW......I do comisserate as I absolutely hated it.

Yikes. That is the most sucky thing on the planet.
I gave up doing self assessment a year ago as I no longer need to, by giving up my third job!
I am now PAYE with two employments.

Good luck

Accountant FTW. It's a bit more complicated for me as I am employee and a Company director...and utterly clueless about accounts stuff

I miss PAYE sometimes!

I do my own, but I have to do quarterly VAT returns too, so I've checked most of the bank statements etc already. I start fretting if I haven't done it by September!

I did the opposite this year and I had a warm glow of smugness. Waiting for the bombshell to drop through the letterbox sometime in Feb saying I cocked it up

Return went in back in about November, you would have to ask my accountant for the correct date, payment made a week or so back. I do all my own vat returns but prefer to let the accountant do the tax bit.

Or you can be Uber smug and do it in May. The evening the email from HMRC comes through saying it’s ready to do.

Oh and don’t expect to be able to pay on credit card . The Govt stopped that in response to the EU stopping surcharging and claiming they put that in place .....

Here for rides.
Accountant and do it in June if you're self-employed as it can help with the bar steward second payment on account. Which I despise. With a vengeance.

Bank transfer via the interwebs is the way forward. For some reason HMRC are exempt from Lloyds Bank "you have set up a new payee please enter the six digit code" bollox.

My income can vary quite a bit from year to year. If it is going to be lower than the previous year, I make sure I do the return in June! If it's gone up, I leave it until August.
