This evening my (soon to be stuffed and mounted) cat has somehow managed to pee all over the sofa and macbook (including the charger) which I'd left on the seat. I've cleaned up but there's a definite whiff when typing and two of the charger pins appear to have fizzed and burnt and are now brown - it does seem to be charging still which is something I guess.

Does anyone have any suggestions how I can be sure I've got it all cleaned up and do something about the smell?

Here's a picture of the guilty party - looking like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth....

Having studied the photographic evidence, i dont believe that cute cat was to blame.

I guess you should take the battery out and dry everything out, sometimes wet electronical things take a while to stop working but still fail. No idea bout the smell though, maybe you can replace the keyboard once its all dry.

babywipes and allow to dry thoroughly, though I'm not 100% sure

I think flaying the cat alive over a trueing stand then burning insides while you do the fix might make the pagan laptop gods look fondly on your mission of mercy (but beware cthulu as he guards only users of ubuntu)

Biological washing powder and boiling water works for getting rid of the smell on furniture, carpets and floors in general. Don't know about using it on a laptop though.

I bought a Large format camera once from a 60 a day smoker, it stank like you wouldn't believe, no matter how much I wiped it down. I picked up a tip from another photographer, he suggested I put it in a cardboard box with a load of scrunched up news paper for a week or so. Lo and behold a week later smell free!! might be worth a try if all else fails.

Thanks I may try this, someone else at work suggested something similar with with rice instead. I'm not sure about that one as I can see the grains getting stuck under the keys and i'll just end up in a worse state! News paper sounds like a much better option!

Remove the battery until it is completely dry.

The charger lead can be washed, with the power off, and then dried completely in a warm airing cupboard over a couple of days.

The laptop keyboard can be removed and washed, soaked, rinsed, washed, soaked, rinsed....
I would be careful of using any soaps and washing powders due to any residuals left.

The rest of the laptop could be carefully opened up and cleaned, but not in water. Not sure what you can do about the smell at this stage. Maybe the newspaper thing might work.

Home contents insurance?

Oh, don't use bleach on cat pee, it makes it smell worse and the cat will return to pee on the smell more often. DAHIKT!
