The big question, was the bat wearing a helmet?
 
I've been hit by a bat in the chest once, in the middle of the night. Luckily it was in the UK, so it wasn't a giant fruit bat** and I'm here to tell the tale. But I think most european bats are insectivores, so use sonar; how does it not "see" something as large as a human?

I was thinking of going aero with my next helmet, so I don't have to stop to remove whatever insect has decided to get a free lift.

Just to trip back to the OP for a mo - why would the helmet have been relevant anyway ? I mean are your shoes useless because they didn't protect you or your gloves [if you were wearing some]? If your wearing steel toe boots and hit your thumb with a hammer would you throw the boots away ? Not commenting on the helmet thing either way but just don't see the connection.

My mummy let the Dr cut my helmet off when i was 4...you lot have no idea how much this thread is upsetting me...she did say i was her very brave little soldier. ...but i cant really say it was worth much..
