Exploding Inner Tube!!

I did a 70 mile ride at the weekend returned home and put my bike back in the garage. The next day I went into the garage and noticed I had a flat front tyre. On closer inspection I noticed the tyre was off the rim which had been blown off by the inner tube exploding. The inner tube had a long split along the seam. This kind of freaked me out as some of the descents I was doing at the weekend were touching 45mph and the thought of this happening at that speed is worrying to say the least. The tube has been in place for at least two months and it's playing on my mind as to what the cause could be after I have had no problems or any indication anything was wrong.

Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Out of interest what tyre was it? Any rips in the tyre where the bead is?

Really hard to tell I assume no holes or obvious things, it could have lost pressure and pinched near home and then blew. If you heard it go bang it usually means the tube was outside the tyre when it went.

No, nothing obvious unfortunately. Didn't hear it as I must of been in the house when it went, so not sure when it actually blew. Just a bit concerned now of it happening when riding at speed and wondering what steps I can take to be extra sure.

All of the above apart from the tyres were at 100psi and they can go to 110psi. Did quite a few long descents that day so maybe the over heating rim is one option, but still it didn't blow until the bike was away in the garage. I would of thought if it was down to an over heating rim then it would have blown when I was out on the road.
