I reckon the Giant is about as good as you will get for £300.

Don't be disappointed if it weighs a bit - all mountain bikes for this sort of money do - but I expect the Giant is a bit lighter than one or two of the others you've been looking at.

Yes a hulking great piece of metal, reminds me of my first motorcycle. Saying that, no harder getting up the hill home than on my road bike. Really pleased
