I'm partial to a chilli or two, it has to be said. But in my morning porridge? It's controversial, for sure.
Would chillis sit happily alongside the raisins, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, sliced banana and teaspoon of manuka honey? Or would they start a fight?

I have the raisins, sliced banana and honey but haven't tried seeds in porridge yet.

Another one for the ColinJ porridge development kitchen - Make the gloop up with Coconut milk, a short word of warning, the Aussie who told me about it may have been trying to wind me up, but you don't know unless you try!

Seeds are good. Some folk will sprinkle them on the top of the porridge once it's cooked. I prefer to chuck them in while it's still on the hob. Gives them chance to soften just a smidge. Yum.

Tried meusli? I make my own toasted variety with base of oats - oats/sunflower seeds/coconut/bran/nuts for variety; covered in a oil/honey mix and popped in the oven till golden - yum!

Yum! indeed, but reminds me of the last time I knocked up a load of muesli (like yours, a tweaked homemade energy bar recipe but without the honey and butter), it ended up costing around £20! It was so f***ing delicious though, that it was all I ate for a few days! (Rye, oat, wheatflakes base, the usual seed suspects, and then apricots, cranberries, pecans, and pistachios.) I thought seriously for a few minutes about making a big batch of it and seeing if I could sell it through the local health-food emporia - but that would have entailed involving the food standards police and those pesky accountancy types.

HMMM. Chilli, coconut milk. Yep. Colin J's authentic Thai Chilli Porridge. Now with added lemongrass. Must be a market for it.

About 2 weeks ago I had a bit of a sore throat. So, just for medicinal purposes mind ;), I put a few+ tablespoons of rum in my porridge.
Very nice.

I am not keen on Porridge as it is so I add a spoon full of bran flakes in the bowl after cooking. It gives it a mixed texture and a bit of crunch.

I think I'll pass on that one, it might result in me being made to sleep outside. I'll pass on the chillies as well, Colin do you keep your toilet paper in the fridge?

Hot Thai Chillis? Bah! Food for wet weedy wimps. What you need is one of these:

(if you can watch it through to the end you're made of stronger stuff than I am... )

Ha - I watched that a few weeks ago. I like hot chiilis but that is just stupid! ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if somebody ended up dying trying to eat something as hot as that. It is easy to imagine the throat having a major reaction to such a hot chilli and swelling up and blocking the windpipe.

No thanks!

To be fair to the guy, he does say "don't try this at home" partway throught the 'experiment'

In all honesty, I quite like 'hot', but 'sensible hot'. The small green 'serrano' type chillis that you get from Tesco's are quite good for that, and reliable, indeed more kick than the often-bland chillis we've bought from the leading Asian food store in Brighton. But nothing we make would be beyond the tastebuds of an accustomed curry-eater.

Our chilli-pancakes are quite a popular meal for us. Ordinary pancakes stuffed with a chilli-bean mixture. Hot but not eye-watering...
