I think I prefer the automatic eye test to the manual one. If I hesitate to decide whether 1 or 2 is sharper, it repeats automatically without having to ask. I'll get them to turn the headset volume down next time though.

£5 at Specsavers yesterday.

The rest of my test was free as I'm living in Scotland now. And I think we've established that Specsavers service can be very variable depending on the branch.

My test was free on the NHS, but the OCT is an optional £5 extra.

The optician was telling me that sunglasses are a good idea to slow down the progression of cataracts, and as I can't see me bothering with the nuisance of separates I decided to try Reactolite lenses. I've never had them before, even as plain sunglasses, so I hope that's not an expensive mistake.

Don't worry they are very good,i always get them, for some reason i always fall on a special offer day,it's weird or a con.I am having trouble with blurred vision AGAIN it could be chemo damage,or diabetes problem.i was due for my test the day after my facial carcinoma removal over my right eye.Oh boy did i have a black eye for a few days, plus puffiness watery eye so i cancelled the test for later, sadly i have a growing cataract in my one and only good eye, sorting that out would mean i would be blind till it settled down.Specsavers have said they would send me to hospital to talk with a eye consultant,i am wondering if i might have to stay in and be looked after.

I suspect that Specsavers service varies hugely with some branches being fantastic and others rubbish.
Reason why I stopped going to Specsavers. Different optometrists every time, variable range of tests, not impressed.
Asked my mum who suggested an independent local firm where she'd been going to for about sixty years without any problem, so gave them a go and have been with them ever since, about fifteen years. A bit more expensive, but well worth the difference with the standard of treatment, staff service level and I've had the same optometrist all the time. :okay:
