OK for following a cause or person you support. I use it to track comedians or bands I want to see. Some don't live up to expectations, for example, I thought Danny Baker may have some amusing comments on affairs of the world, but mostly he tweets unendingly about football whilst drunk.

Twitter must be used as a passive medium, unless you are a popular wit or insightful observer, don't tweet, nobody is interested in the contents of your fridge.

I very briefly opened an account to see someone's pictures and deleted it a few weeks later. I never really got it and don't really want it.

It's a good way for the friendless like you to get some friends. Reconsider, I beseech you Crackle, if only for your self-esteem.

I've often thought about binning my Facebook account, I rarely use it but it is useful to keep in touch with friends who are overseas.

Exactly. Recently I would say there have been a fair few posts circulating that have been more than a little racist.

Yeah, it's sickening and really disappointing to see people you regard as friends posting this stuff!

as well as getting taken off that 192 thing which, I was horrified to discover, carries a hell of a lot of personal info too - (well worth checking and getting taken off it).

There is lots to complain about with Facebook, but as a social tool, Facebook is as good or as useful or as enjoyable as the friends you have. I guess if you have 'friends' posting racist cack, then you have racist friends; it's hardly Facebook's fault.

Deleted (not deactivated) a few months ago.

There was a time when I thought it was quite good to be able to keep tabs on old school friends, ex work colleagues and the likes.

Then, slowly, I started remembering the reasons as to why I didn't keep in touch with these people in the first place.

I don't see myself removing my Facebook account any time soon.

I do however delete any posts I make after a couple of months. If and/or when I add more friends to my account, I don't see why they should see what I was doing a month or a year ago when I didn't know them a month or a year ago. That doesn't however mean I post things that are offensive or I wouldn't mind people seeing, it just means I have control over what they know about me, and I can tell them instead of them finding out on their own accord.

I don't have that many friends on facebook and I don't use it to make big personal statements or to be rude about people. I quite often only post messages visible to specific people or groups so that even if I add a friend later they can't see posts I don't want them too. I find it most useful to share photographs with friends and family.

I'm sure a lot of people find merit in Facebook, i'm not trying to say that it's the big bad wolf!

On a personal level i've come to think that it's a bit disconcerting to have all my information and granular details of my social groups trusted to a faceless organisation. On top of that, i'm tired of being a 'product' and existing solely to generate money. YMMV
