I do have an account as it can be useful to access information in certain circumstances.
I have never uploaded a profile, made a post or anything like that. I added facebook to the Spam list on my email account as I was sick of having endless emails urging me to log in, or people I have never seen or heard from for 20 years or even never knew in the first place wanting to be my friend.
If haven't been in touch with someone for 20 years, there is probably a good reason why not.

Never had an account, dont want an account. I just find the whole facebook thing a bit needy and childish, like ive said before its ok for pre pubescent schoolgirls to gossip about boys in the playground. I stay in touch with friends via face to face catchups, phone and email, which is a little less public than facebook.

You have just reminded me of some of my daughter's friends status .... when they post a photo of themselves and then everyone tells them just how beautiful they look, till the next photo, just seems completely empty false compliments.

I quite like the group thing in FB, folk often post in that for bike rides; I also like being able to see pictures of home when I'm far from it. Maybe the other stuff ads ect are a pain but I wont cut my nose off to spite my face but being a Fifer if it ever went to a pay site I would

I'm not so sure... for example, if I thought a friend of mine needed my help I would call them. I wouldn't announce to the world that I was about to ring my friend who needed my help. It all seems to be people looking for acknowledgement that their friendship is worth more than someone else's frendship to the same person.
I was done with that at primary school.

The endless emails were annoying indeed; thankfully they've changed it so you only get a email when somebody tags you these days.
It's great for me to stay in contact with my well dispersed friends and family. I have moved from my parents town, to my uni town, and again to a new town. If I did not have FB I think I would find it much more hard work (yes bit lazy but I'm trying to be honest) to keep in touch with the amount of people I can via FB
I agree with flying monkey about the racist friends thing; after the Woolwich incident I had a 'friend' or two make hugely offensive comments and so I unfriended them; don't want people like that anywhere near me.
One of my best friends is coming off it this week. She's had enough of the nonsense. I think Good for you, but I reckon she'll be back on it within three months...

There's something quite ironic complaining about vaguebooking then doing this.
I deactivated once about a year ago, but I was tempted back. Sheer bloody nosiness on my part. 
During the 30days of biking my husband said it was hardly a challenge for me, so I also had a 30 days social media free. The only internet I used was online banking and email.
I've slowly succumbed to the facebook addiction again though, and I've even rejoined you lot.
There really is no hope for me.

What exactly was vague about my post?
Decided I didn't like facebook, left, wondered if anyone else was in the same boat?
Don't you see the irony in telling everyone on a forum you've deactivated your Facebook profile, whilst at the same time commenting on the attention-seeking behaviour of others?

I see what you're getting at and I guess you can say that making any post on a forum is attention seeking however i'm not wanting anyone to delve into any hidden reasoning to my post or discuss my situation directly, I just wanted discussion of the subject in general... mission accomplished.
I deactivated my facebook earlier this year sometime - can't now actually remember when it was. Aside from breaking my spotify and strava accounts which were both tied to it (I've since reinstated strava, but spotify has been replaced by last.fm) I can't say that after the first couple of weeks I really noticed its absence.
