That first one is a bit off the mark as if he had an accident at that time you wouldn't have seen any update, his sentence was unfinished and thus he would not have pressed the enter key to publish it. It would however have looked that way on his phone provided it had not been smashed to bits in the accident.

the enter key doesn't post the status, it starts a new line doesn't it?

Depends on your phone I guess, I have one that acts like an enter key
