Finally got the Sachs Huret sorted out and installed on the bike ! Just been for a trial ride ......what can l say that probably hasn't been said before? This machine is so "light on its feet" as it were but just feels so secure at the same time. It is hard to believe that it is over 30 years old.
The only thing that is a bit of a shame is that at some point a 7speed cassette has been fitted, resulting a fair bit of wear on the chainring when in lowest gear. A challenge for the future l guess.

PS thank you to everyones suggestions re the S.Huret problems when l was tearing out whats left of my hair.
