The other night a chap got rear ended and thrown off his bike as I was talking to someone on the pavement. I immediately went to see to the chap whilst my friend caught up with the driver at nearby red lights.

The driver shrugged and said that the cyclist just fell off. I didn't see the accident but there was an independent witness who did and from the cyclists description of suddenly feeling a surge forward and then flying over the bars it sounds like he was definitely hit.

We did get the reg and the police came and took the details so I hope they catch the guy. Fortunately the cyclist was more shaken than anything. No obvious serious injuries but he did go with the ambulance to get a chest x-ray as he was in a bit of pain and wanted to be sure.

I still amazed at the nonchalance shown by the driver. For all he knew the guy might have been badly injured and even if he hadn't hit him you'd think some one would stop to give assistance. Hope he was insured because I think he's going to have a claim against him at the least and I hope but do not expect the police to bring charges for failure to stop.

This happened on my road, there's a chicane, a driver cocked up and smashed a garden wall, he went to drive off and a neighbour came out and said "Don't even think about it".

Mrs CK was watching that bad drivers thing the other day showing the car mowing through a critical mass and the other one who ran over a pedestrian crossing the road, the driver was overtaking another car on the wrong side of one of those islands in the road so the ped did not think to look right .People in the car following had a camera and recorded the whole incident , one jumped out to attend to the ped and the driver caught up with the car, boxed her in behind a parked car and told her she had killed some one
" I didnt hit anyone " was the reply

She got a suspended sentence and community service , and license taken off her

Shocking and scary beyond belief what some people are capable of, and think is acceptable, behind the wheel of a car.
and also on a cycle , like the tw@ who went through the red light while it was on the pedestrian phase and knocked my wife and 6 yr old over. I recognise you and you will pay for it. just got back from the hospital with them and thankfully nothing broken just grazes and some cuts to hand.

That's awful! Glad it wasn't too serious and hope they get well soon

There is absolutely no excuse for that!

Glad there's not much physical damage, but I bet they'll be pretty scared to cross the road in future.

Note: Reporting the accident to the police by telephone is not sufficient and you cannot ask someone else to report for you.

You're obliged to do these things not only when you are directly involved in an accident, but also if your vehicle's 'presence' was a factor.

Worth remembering, who else on their commute gets drivers edging over as they wait to turn right across your path? hate it when they do that, I dunno if they've seen me!
