Whilst out for a ride today I had the misfortune to suffer a broken spoke which then became tangled in the rear mech. I managed to free the mech but the wheel (Easton EA30) was now out of shape so much that it would jam on the chainstay near the seat tube and was un-rideable.
The guy I was riding with offered his condolences and I told him to carry on as there was no point in us both having our rides ruined and I set off walking. At this point I was roughly 10 miles from home.
I lost count of the number of cyclists who asked if I needed anything, unfortunately, none of them had any spare spokes (or spare wheel) but thank you for the offers of help.
Now the good bit.
A passing car with a bike rack on the roof stopped further up the road and the passenger got out and asked if I was OK. I explained my problem and he offered to put the bike on the rack and give me a lift to the next village. It turns out they were a family from Halifax on a day out going to the local beauty spot near where I live. They dropped me off just over a mile from home and wouldn't accept any payment for petrol.
So, if on the off chance the family in the blue Ford Focus heading from Luddenden Foot to Dovestones stumble across this, THANK YOU once again and I hope you enjoyed the rest of your day.
