I recently got this Falcon San Remo. It appears to me to be an early 70s San Remo Equipe Team Replica.

It has a dark red head tube, wrap around seat stays, Campy drop outs, fancy chrome lugs.

Anyone have an idea as to year? 1971 maybe?

I don’t want to repaint, but there are a few spots that could use a touch up. Has anyone had success finding good match to Falcon Blue? Anyone have a RAL number and sheen (gloss or semi gloss)?

Thanks for any help

The light blue frames with the red head tube were first made for the 1972 season, which sets its earliest date, assuming it is original paint which it looks like. Does the "Made in Lincolnshire" decal seem original? Falcon moved from Birmingham to Barton-on-Humber in 1968 and many 1970s frames carried this decal. What is curious is the really nice lugs because most of the equipes have a long point lug. However the ones your frame have do appear on early frames as well as on a very late 1983ish San Remo that I own. I think the early ones were Nervex but there are copies of Nervex that appear later. Interestingly the catalogue you show has not got the same lugs as yours!

I would agree early 1970s but not 1971. I cannot see any more detail to pin it down any better.

Incidentally, do you have that original catalogue? I don't seem to have sen that one and I do have quite a collection of Falcon catalogues.

Also, does it have a frame number?

Hi, I have rece

I recently picked up similar. It is duck egg blue with maroon headtube, part chromed seatpost, large Falcon emblem on downtube and toptube, on the lower rear stay it reads' Designed by Ernie Cement and San Remo ' Also has stick on tubs as we used to call them.The lugs chromed nervex style lugs, which I thought makes it early sixties as i have had on other cycles;
Campag chainset and derailleur/front changer, Campag large flange hubs with Fiamme rims etc. Brooks seat, etc etc.

Having restored many other vintage cycles i am wondering whether I actually want to restore or not............ Previous owner of Cyril Wren, Leach Marathon, jack Hearne, Two Spearpoint Gillott's. Jensen, Hobbs of Barbican and Pinarello to name some.

If you are going to restore a Falcon, this is the one you should work on. It will be an Expensive but worthwhile project to get it back in condition.
