How much success do organisers get with bums on seats on family cycle rides ?

It seems that people are very willing to push themselves in charity events to raise money for good causes, but getting families and children out to do a few miles off road is a much bigger challenge.

Can anyone offer advice on the most effective ways of organising these, publicity, newspapers, Internet etc ?

It is hard... Here in Swindon the CTC have been running social rides weekly on a sunday and we do get the occasional family join us. The cycling festival tends to attract a good number of people so hopefully that will kick start the interest in the social rides.

in terms of getting my family out, the purchase of a trailer which the two youngest can go in has helped as their elder brother is keen to ride with us.

my local club does do 'easy' rides, although sometimes i wonder whether the distances are a bit much for youngsters and beginners…
