fancy a cycling holiday in Russia?

I'm currently planning a cycling trip in Eastern Karelia. The planned route goes trough Svetogorsk and Vyborg which are statistically quite dangerous places to drive. I hope my jersey is bright enough!

The random appearance of low flying jets and helicoptors was a nice touch. Great video.

I have experienced Russia by foot only and that of course might affect my views on the country and especially it's traffic. I still do look forwards to cycle there. I count on my bike causing more damage to their suv than an average pedestrian.

According to Top Gear, they're the best drivers of all, the Finns, with some very comprehensive driver training. Hence so many rally drivers are Finns.

That's true of course, Arch. Love to go to Finland.

My main experience of Finnish people was when I was working in a special needs school and we got a young girl who's parents had moved here. Her Mum was Scottish, so she understood English to a certain extent, but she had learned a mixture of Finnish and English Makaton to help her understand things a bit better, so.... of course.... we had to start learning Finnish Makaton until she understood fully what people were saying. Luckily it didn't take very long.

That was ok, except that she also had a tendency to shreak loudly when upset, so you could often hear her long before you saw her, although its amazing how quickly you got used to it!

..... They then moved back due to a lack of work, so that was the end of that!

yeah, right. Swedish, Danish and Norwegian Minnesotans say, 'jah, the Finns, they're crazy drivers. Never get in a car with one of those crazy Finns'.

Finnish people are quite good drivers, BUT I don't feel safe riding in Finland. Finland has very long distances between everything in here and people aren't used to cyclists and therefore aren't aware of them. Statistically For example Italy and France are safer places to cycle. And I can see why. In southern Europe they really understand that a cyclist is quite fragile after all.

There's a craze in Saudi Arabia where the young Saudi's do what they call Drifting. Check out Saudi Arabia Drift on YouTube, warning! some of it's not for the faint hearted.
