Agree re 501 tubing, it's perfectly good.
Pedal power in Aningdon and Warlands cycles in Oxford both deal in good second hand bikes and usually have a few good steelies. I think pedal power still has a galaxy. Worth a call. Do you know what frame size in inches?
Be aware, worn drive trams can be a bit soendy to replace.

Sorry - to answer your question @Fab Foodie - frame size in inches would be minimum 23.5., I'm 6ft 3. Although from what I am reading on here and elsewhere some tall people have small frames with a lot of seat post on show.

@biggs682 thanks for the offer to try your claud butler. Is it one you have for sale or one of yours?

@Fab Foodie Thanks for the tips on those two shops. I will certainly check them out. We have two local bike shops where I live but one is cycle king and the other full of bianchis that cost 2K+ nothing in between!

@stalagmike its one i have for sale but its one i use like all my bikes , i have just finished putting a 531 framed single speed bike together so thats available to try

Criteriums and Scirocco's sometimes come in full 501 tubing not just main triangle something else to keep an eye out for

@stalagmike i have an 80's Claud Butler in full 501 if you fancy a try to see what you think about it , i like full 501 frames and i doubt many of us can really tell the difference in 501 and 531

That reminds me, my dad has a Claude butler in showroom condition. Had it from new around 15+ years old. Shifters on the down tube. I keep meaning to ask him about it.
I think it's San Remo in white with blue detailing. No idea if it's steel or Ali, but it's barely been used and never in rain. Better than A1 condition. Maybe he will pass it my way :bravo:

@raleighnut @biggs682 There's a Criterium on Ebay at the moment that looks good. In my size too! What do you guys think? Worth an offer?

Looks pretty good, not sure I'd want those mudguards on though clearance seems very tight with the tyres and they don't have a release 'thingy' on the front. If I was looking to get another bike I'd go for it though.( The 12 we own are more than enough for now.)

doesnt look too bad , not very close though

worth a cheeky offer

@biggs682 Not close, you're right. Naturally my offer would be low enough to cover the fuel used to go and pick it up, or for a courier to deliver ^_^
