I remember the name as a child, and my Mum was telling me about her recipe for shortbread using it. However I assume you can't get it now. Is there a modern equivalent?

Apparently it still exists.
Seems to be more common up here. Let me know if you want some and I'll take a look next time I'm shopping.

I'll see if I can find some first but I may come back to you... looks like its in Asda that I need to go hunting.

It is a form of ground rice. We can still get it here as it used to be a staple pud in our house. My late dad used to make "Footballers pud" with it--it had big lumps in it!
