and it's not about me, well only a little bit of it is most of it is about Sean Fraenkel, a South African that I met pedalling his way from Manchester to Middlesbrough while I was doing the Way of the Roses. He was a genial guy and had a bike with a severely buckled rear wheel. He had a few adventures on his ride and I play a minor role in his blog of the journey.

Read it here

It's quite entertaining.

Is this the guy who was the subject of a thread a while ago, cycling along the motorway?!
I think he's lucky he met you Vernon, but pushing your bike up a hill?! shame on you;)

Lovely - and :bravo: Vernon, not only for accompanying him on foot up the hill ;) but also for keeping him on the 'right roads' for the rest of his trip.

He didn't mention much about the pies :hungry: ,though ...

I do remember reading that and thinking how do you manage that but if he's from south africa it now all makes sense

He has in subsequent Facebook communications. We are both striving to avoid them.

I can's help making them though.

Sean is an entertaining and interesting bloke. He's a saturation diver and spends a month at a time in a diving bell of the coast of Qatar. We hit it off immediately when we met. I have an open invitation to stay at his place in South Africa. I just might take him up on the offer when it's the coolest part of the year once I've got work out of my system.

Sounds like you made a positive difference to his "tour" Vern - both from a cycling and local delicacy POV :hungry: - nice one!

As I always said, in my professional diving days - if you're going to do it, do it somewhere warm :sun: ! (the Far East, in my case )

Dit dit dit,This is the one o'clock news from Meanwood.

It has been revealed today that a much travelled and well repected cyclist is known for walking. This disclosure has rocked the cycling world of CycleChat.Well know for his praise of all things pie.Cyclist Vernon said so what.
This is what fellow traveller said.
I saw another cyclist pushing his bike up the tough incline. I hopped off my metallic steed and pushed along beside him.
