Just had this Painted Lady in the garden.
Apparently they migrate to the UK from North Africa or southern Europe.......a long way for tiny butterfly's.

I suspect it's been a very good year fir butterflys. A regular sighting in Notts as a kid, Painted Ladys seem a rarer sight nowadays, I saw one the other week and struggled to remember what it was at first.
Lots of butterflys around...

Jannie and I are often out walking and like to take photos of butterfly. You need to get in as close as possible to get good results.

That often means a chase down the hedgerow or round the garden. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. 😄

Don't forget the catapillers. They can be stunning as well.

Loads around here, mostly speckled woods and whites currently, also peacocks and red admirals. Lots of ringlets earlier in the summer. Looking at the East Scottish Butterflies group on FB it seems to have been a good year for most.

As above, in local pits, lots of whites with Marsh Brown's and Common Blues (a small but beautiful butterfly) with odd Fritillarries, painted ladies and Red Admirals,
While Peterborough is a bit meh as a place to live, there's no shortage of well managed parkland or former brickpits that are left completely alone, perfect for wildlife, rivers and pits, scrub, grassland , its possibly the perfect environment for them
