Saw a copy of a Le Petit Parisien Sunday supplement at the Peterborough antiques fair a couple of weeks ago; liked it, but not the asking price of £38, so had a shufti on ebay and found a copy for less than a fiver, including P&P from France. It's an illustration of a 15Km race, based at the Parc des Princes velodrome, for riders weighing at least 100 Kg - two were disqualified for only weighing 99Kg! Winning time was 24 min 40.4 sec. Quite respectable, I reckon (as a 100+Kg rider myself ).
Some of the machines appear to have the chain on the left. I'm not sure whether this was artistic licence, or an accurate depiction; maybe I should have posted this under vintage!

There were two bike adverts in the classifieds on page 7 of the 8 page supplement; both next to adverts for pommade. Totally unbidden, images of Mario Cippolini invaded my brain.
