It's a country road running through Toft. Inevitably you'll get vehicles sometimes driving faster than the road conditions should allow and not always with sufficient diligence and hazard perception. However given the sparseness of detail at present, no one can say with any certainty that this was the case on this particular occasion. The loss of life is always sad to read about; thoughts go out to the family at this difficult time.

Nice that the automated advert robot picked up on the reference to a van driver in the story and pasted the article with adverts for VW Vans. Tasteful.

It's a country road running through Toft.

The report actually says it was on "the busy A428 eastbound carriageway" so not the B1046 through Toft (the CEN also reported it as the A428).

I guess they are referring to the new(ish) bit of the dual'd A428 from Cambourne up to the Toft/Dry Drayton exit.

Not a road I would would cycle on by choice.

I guess the guy was unfamiliar with they area as there are plenty of options other than the dual-carriageway.

All rather sad.

RIP

Yet another poor person to set off one morning and not arrive at the other end. We don't know enough about the details but for whatever the reason it must be terrible for his family and I will remember them in my thoughts and prayers.

Some very nice comments from pupils of his below the article, shows the effect that people can have on others around them. I hope that they provide a small comfort to those who knew him.

RIP.

the 53-year-old father of two never reached the holiday spot at Cromer as he collided with a white Ford transit van

Too early to tell, of course, but I strongly suspect a van collided into him, rather than the other way around.

What a waste of life by a waste of space van driver ............ If VWM was anything like the white van men I have encountered he would have been very unpleasant more than likely gassing on a mobile phone or eating his lunch as he drove. I know, controversial, I shouldn't say it, but I have.
I know the road and the fact that a cyclist has lost their life on it turns my blood cold.

RIP Mr Roberts. You were obviously held in high regard and a popular teacher from the comments left on the newspaper website ........ and a regular cyclist.

Since we don't actually know anything about the incident, can we not go into auto-rant about van drivers?
Since you know you shouldn't say it, Crankers, why the hell did you feel you had to?

Very sad news.
I cycled from Leicester to Cambridge. The route took me through Toft on the B1046. The A428 looked a bit busy for my likings.

A tragic story, but please - and this applies to everyone - don't make assumptions or apply traits to people you can't factually back up.

Some lovely comments from pupils.

Thanks,
Shaun

Ah yes, didn't realise there was a second page there

. The A428 seems way too fast to chance cycling on in my opinion, though there are plenty who do use it all the same.
