And how exactly does that work when the cyclist survives and the mejia still use the book of 1001 tired hackneyed shorthand phrases that they don't have to think about with "when he collided with a car"?

YOU might think it's something to do with possible contempt of court, the rest of the world knows it's just lazy journalsim.
Why not say "collision between a cyclist and a car"? It's factual and there's no bias.

Yet again a sad story about a cyclist dying is turned into a pointless rant by know it alls about how the press should report stories.

Why aren't all you know it alls journalists if you know how things should be reported. Could it be that you arenot as clever as you want to tell everyone you are?

Things are reported the way they are for good reason, but even when you are told the reason, you seem to think you know better

The story on this thread should be about another tragic loss of life, not semantics over a media report. Whatever the words are or should be won't save this or any other cyclists life

No deaths, which means either party may be liable to be prosecuted so bang goes your pet theory about contempt of court, yet again and again we hear that it was the cyclist that collided with the car!

Because of course the law is the same in every country in the world isn't it?

The reason why papers in this country word things has been told to you. It is not a theory, but is fact. Clearly, you are a better journalist than all those writing such articles and are obviously a better lawyer than those advising the media on the law.
It must be a loss to the law and to journalism that you are not writing all media articles and sitting in judgement on all legal cases

However, if you'd rather besmirch the sad death of another cyclist by petty nonsensical arguments re semantics, then carry on. I'm sure arguing over what you think the media should print will save this cyclist and others as well from death or serious injury on the roads.

I'm out of this thread with a thought for the sad loss of another cyclist on our roads.

No Spen, it's your repeating that there is no bias against the cyclists that is offensive and inappropriate to me. Why is it not biased when the cyclist collided with the car, but it is biased when the car collided with the cyclist is suggested instead? Your logic and reasoning is flawed.

Mumbo jumbo has got it right: "collision between a cyclist and a car" is neutral. Saying X collided with Y is not neutral.

Oh, and RIP.
True. Last year I left the road going too fast downhill and the wall collided with me.
Reminds me of the friend who skidded on gravel and rammed the wall. As we sat there recovering our equanimity he said," That wasn't fair."
